JSW Combat SUV
Big, boxy SUVs with a rugged look are hard to ignore, and the JSW Combat SUV is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about launches in India. It will be the first car JSW Motors sells under its own badge, separate from the JSW MG Motor joint venture. Treat every figure below as expected, not confirmed, until JSW publishes its own numbers.
The JSW Combat is the India version of the Jetour T2, the boxy adventure SUV that Chery sells abroad. It is reportedly built under a licensing and parts deal with Chery, with assembly planned at JSW’s plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. Early units may be imported. Reports say India gets the older T2 design with a few small tweaks: reworked headlamps and bumpers, plus COMBAT lettering across the bonnet where the Jetour badge sits overseas.
The unveil is expected on 4 December 2026, and invites have reportedly gone out for 3 and 4 December. Prices and the full launch should follow between December 2026 and early 2027.
Most reports point to ₹40–50 lakh ex-showroom, while a wider estimate runs from ₹30 lakh to ₹50 lakh. Nothing is official yet, so keep some room in your budget until the company confirms pricing.
Abroad, the T2 is mostly a petrol SUV, sold with 1.5T and 2.0T engines and an all-wheel-drive option. India is expected to get only the plug-in hybrid. A 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine works with two electric motors through a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. Combined output is quoted at 360 hp and 610 Nm, sent to the front wheels.
The 90 km figure comes from a test cycle, so real roads will give you less. The source portal estimates roughly 55–70 km in city traffic, and 40–50 km on a fast ring road with the air conditioning running in peak summer. Even so, that covers most daily drives on electricity alone, with the petrol engine saved for weekends and highway trips.
The Combat is a monocoque SUV with an upright, boxy shape that looks tougher than a typical family car.
The expected cabin highlights include a 15.6-inch touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital cluster. Add a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and memory front seats, a 12-speaker Sony audio system and 50 W wireless charging.
The expected safety kit covers six airbags, a 540-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS with adaptive cruise control.
The expected colours are Night Black, Sand, Sun Orange, Lime Green, Misty Cyan and Silver Snow.
At the expected price, the Combat lands between two groups. The first is comfort-focused monocoque SUVs such as the Kia Sorento and Skoda Kodiaq. The second is diesel ladder-frame SUVs such as the Toyota Fortuner and MG Majestor.
The portal says the Combat would be the only plug-in hybrid in that group. It offers up to 90 km of claimed electric-only driving, while the rivals offer none or only short bursts. Where it gives ground is seating. The Fortuner, Majestor and Sorento offer a third row, whereas the Combat has five seats.
If you want a large, well-equipped SUV with very low running costs and a tough exterior, the JSW Combat SUV deserves a place on your shortlist. Its plug-in hybrid setup suits daily city commutes and occasional long drives. But a lot is still unconfirmed, from price to variants to the final specification.
The sensible move is to watch the December unveil, compare the official numbers against rivals, and book a test drive before you commit.
